Orbis Flying Eye Hospital er en humanitær organisasjon som reiser rundt i verden og bidrar med opplæring av lokale øyeleger. Organisasjonen benyttet dette DC-10-10-flyet fra 1992 til 2008. Flyet var utstyrt med operasjonsrom, diagnostikk- og oppvåkningsrom, laserrom, observasjonsrom, teknisk senter, kommunikasjonssenter og et klasserom.

Project ORBIS is an international nonprofit, nonreligious humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting blindness worldwide and promoting peaceful cooperation among nations. ORBIS offers three-week training programs to countries at the invitation of their government and local eye doctors. Each week volunteer ophthalmologists join the 25-member ORBIS International team to share surgical skills with host country doctors. ORVIS also provides training for nurses and biomedical engineers. Programs take place aboard the ORBIS DC-10-10 aircraft. The ORBIS "Flying Eye Hospital" interior modifications include: operating room, diagnostic and recovery room, laser room, observation room, complete audiovisual facility, technical services center, communications center and a teaching classroom. The design of the ORBIS DC-10 was influenced by 12 years ecperience fighting blindness aboard its former DC-8-21 which was donated by United Airlines. ORBIS is fortunate to have many corporations within the aviation industry as supporters of its projects.
