The BelugaXL is based on the A330 and has a 30% higher freight capacity than its predecessor, the A300-600ST, allowing it to transport, for example, two A350 wings at the same time, compared to the single wing the original Beluga can carry. Externally, the XL can be most easily recognized by its “smile”, which further emphasizes the appearance of the whale. On July 21, 2023, the sixth and final BelugaXL took off from Toulouse for its maiden flight. In contrast to the first five, Beluga #6 winks on its port side.
