The original of this now third edition of the Dreamliner in the colors of Germany's largest airline was also originally built for China's Hainan Airlines, which, however, cancelled its order for several aircraft with Boeing. Lufthansa seized the opportunity of short-term availability and took delivery of the 787, now registered as D-ABPC, at the beginning of 2023. This third of currently five Dreamliners was named after the maritime city and capital of the northern-most German State Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel.
